Our dig is progressing nicely. In our research room Angelina has been busy investigating the oyster industry in Gloucester, whilst Will has been looking at the Blanch family. John Blanch was MP for Gloucester around 1710 and his daughter, Mary, was married to Thomas Horton, who built Wotton House.
Down in the trench we have recovered part of a clay pipe. Clay pipes are fascinating and have an important social history attached to them. Hopefully we will recover some more of this pipe, or maybe another from which we can glean a little more information, such as a date. At the moment, our pipe sits well with our oysters as a potential illustration of Victorian life at Wotton House.
