Prep now open to Year 3 entry!

Updated: Jun 19, 2021

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been given permission by the Department for Education to extend our intake age to 7 year olds!

Wonderful news just in: with immediate effect we have been given permission by the Department of Education to extend our Prep provision and are now able to offer places for children from 7 years old and upwards. This is fantastic news and will provide a joined up provision from 7 years all the way to 16!

Wotton House International Prep has had an incredible year, with our 10 and 11 year olds achieving amazing things – we have enjoyed success on a National level, with one student winning the ISA Junior Poetry Competition.

We have enjoyed learning for one day every week at our stunning outdoor education setting, The Wilderness Centre. This has allowed students to work towards their John Muir Award.

The programme has provided opportunities to discover, explore, conserve and share their understanding of this diverse natural environment.

We purchased 2 Dartmoor pony foals in the current academic year, which the Prep students are caring for on a weekly basis. We have plans to increase the herd in the coming year and have made links with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, who have a conservation site on either side of our centre, creating a wonderful wildlife corridor for our students to explore. We will be presenting our finished books, containing a selection of acrostic poems, photos and illustrations inspired by nature, at our school open event for parents on 3rd July – there will even be an opportunity for parents to get their copies signed by the authors!

We worked effectively throughout online learning, students keeping impressive attendance records and making effective use of their Chromebooks to complete tasks using Google Classroom. We made time each day to connect with each other and share our interests from home. The children put on a concert, playing their instruments for one another, showcasing their talents from outside the classroom. One student even asked to join our morning tutorial as a birthday treat on their flexi day – this kept everyone grounded and with a sense of routine, before the rigorous lessons began.

Our art lessons have been fabulous this year, our specialist teacher Mischa enables the students to explore a wide range of techniques, maximising links to nature and the great outdoors within the framework of the Cambridge Primary Curriculum.

The whole class attended our 2-night residential, in which we camped at The Wilderness Centre with students staying in the new bell tents. There were 40 mph winds and pouring rain on the second night, but nothing was going to stop us – the students made up for the weather with their huge appetites for adventure and resilience! It was an incredible trip with many fun memories!

At Wotton House International Prep we provide a robust and truly bespoke education for our students. We have an experienced team of staff and believe that we offer a holistic education which embraces the head, heart and hands; we envision the future, inspire and empower the students and execute and innovate deftly. Lessons take account of individual interests and we approach learning with a sense of fun and excitement. We can’t wait to welcome our new younger cohort and have such exciting plans for resourcing and setting up our brand new learning space!

If you are interested in finding out more, or just want to meet Misty and Nibbles, our Prep hamsters, why not get in touch with Sophie, our Head of Admissions to find out more. We are holding a Prep Open day on Saturday 26th June and are also welcoming drop-ins during the week 5-9th July when you can come and experience Prep for yourselves...
